Weights and Measures Department:
Weights and Measures Department is responsible for regulating the standards prescribed under the Weights and Measures Act 1984. Standards in terms of Weight, Length, Volume, Area, Capacity or numbers used for trade purposes. The enforcement of the Weights and Measures Act 1984 ensure fairness in the market by protecting consumers from inaccurate measurements, and support the development of local businesses with a focus on improving fair-trading and export competitiveness.
Objectives:
1. To encourage the fairness and safety levels of products and services in Kiribati, both locally manufactured and imported for protecting consumers, achieving better social and environmental protection and improving livelihoods.
2.To ensure that all the weighing scales or measuring instruments used in the trade Sector in Kiribati should be accurately and complied with the legal requirement or obligations under this act.
