Since the accession of Kiribati to the Berne Convention (which concerns with the protection of literary and artistic works in Kiribati), the Copyright Bill was read and passed in the House of Parliament for the second time on the 21st of August, 2018, and now recognizes as one of the legislations in Kiribati.
Main objectives of the Kiribati Copyright Act 2018:
- To govern copyright, right to control the use and distributions of protected artistic and literary works in Kiribati
- To promote the creation of literary and artistic works and encouraging productive activities through communicating to the public
- To protect the moral & economic rights of authors/creators
The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is now in process of drafting the Copyright Regulations, once the Copyright Act and its regulations fully implemented and completed then the registration on copyright will initiated.
